  Club News

A BIG THANKYOU TO EVERYONE who attended the club presentation night at The Flower of May on Friday 11th May. With all age groups well represented by players, families and friends we had in excess of 250 people at the event, a super turn out.All the children received a memento of their season. Everyone chipped in by buying a great amount of raffle tickets to aid the running of the event and towards the costs of the club, over £1,000 was taken on the evening. The committee would like to send out our thanks to everyone who donated a raffle prize. We would also like to say a public thank you to Gill Hall our treasurer who did an enormous amount of work to get the event organised. Also a big thankyou to U12 girls parent Kenny Ng for taking team photos on the night
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFTER REACHING THEIR AGE GROUP CUP FINALS, unfortunately our U9s and U12s couldn't bring home the trophy. Both sides went down by a single goal in two tight matches. The players and coaches of both age groups should be proud of their efforts and hopefully next season will bring better reward for their hard work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to Tony Kirks' U13 who won the Hull Boys Sunday League Kingston Division at their first attempt with a convincing 12-1 victory today. With two games left to go the boys so far have only lost once. Throughout the season they have played some top class football which was epitomised in todays game when a fifteen pass move resulted in a fine headed goal. The club would like to thank everyone concerned with the team for helping them achieve this success.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A BIG WELL DONE to the U9s who have reached the Cup Final in their age group in their first
competitive season. Tommy's side beat high flying Burlington Jackdaws in a tight match 2-0. Both sides played some excellent football with Cayton coming out winners thanks to a Daniel Sisson penalty and an excellent lob in the very last minute from Joshua Smith! The team now go on to meet Scholes Park Raiders in the final at Queensgate. We wish them well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FOR THE SECOND successive season Tony Lever's team have reached their age group Cup Final. The team overcame a strong Ayton team after extra time to book their place in the final. Lets hope they can go one better this season and lift the trophy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U16 SOCCABILITY TEAM completed its 2011/12 fixtures in the NRCFA Ability Counts League with three victories. Their wins against Prince Bishop School from Middlesbrough and Copmanthorpe A and B sides from York meant the boys finished the season unbeaten. The league is run on a friendly basis with teams often loaning players to smaller squads. This season has been particularly pleasing as the team had to be rebuilt after losing 4 players who passed the maximum age limit. The boys have worked tremendously hard all season and have been a credit to the club. We would also like to thank the parents for their support and also Cayton Parish Council who have helped us with transport and venue hire costs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS TO Kev Ward and his U13s for taking the runners up spot in the Minor League. This is the teams first season with us and the boys have been a credit to the club and themselves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CLUB WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE that Linsey Ward has taken the job of Club Welfare Officer. We wish her well and hope everyone at the club will support her in this important role. Could we also pass on our thanks to JoAnn who served the club for a number of years in this position.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO John Wards' U10s who wrapped up the league title with their first game of the New Year. With a few games still remaining the boys took the title by beating Ayton 2 - 0 on the 8th of Jan. John is rightly proud of all his players, coaches and the parents who helped achieve this tremendous success. They become only our second ever boys team to lift a league title.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CLUB WOULD like to thank the members of the Cayton Parish Council for their generous donation of £250 towards the transport and facility hire costs for the Soccability team. This money will enable us to continue competing in the NRCFA Ability Counts fixtures.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUE FLINTON HAS taken over the role of volunteer co-ordinator from JoAnn, who can no longer give the time necessary to do the role. We would like to thank Jo' for all her hard work over the seasons and her support for the club, especially the girls team.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCARBOROUGH U13s TEAMS were invited by personel invitation to attend a Leeds Utd training session at Flamingoland by Mark Crane the manager .The day, lead by the Leeds Utd development staff, held different skill sessions and also explained the advantages of good and bad technique. The day was finished off with a match.
The boys had a great time and Mark Crane allowed all players and coaches to enter the park free. Out of 50 players that attend the 5 hour session the Leeds Utd coach passed comment that the Cayton Corinthians JFC players showed good attitude and willingness throughout the day and are a credit to the club.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SOCCABILITY BOYS STARTED their new campaign with strong performances in the first round of matches in the the 2011/12 NRCFA Ability Counts League. Playing at York College with a younger team than last season and some new players the boys played some excellent football in their three games.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS, that we announce our U16 girls have had to withdraw from the City of York League due to a lack of players. This was our first ever girls team starting as U10s back in 2005, since then they have won both the Scarborough & District Minor League & Cup as well as the Hunmanby tournament and also coming runners up in these competitions. During its time a number of its girls went on to represent both North Yorkshire and East Riding  FA Centres of Excellence. A massive thankyou must go to Sue for setting up the team and even more so to Jim and Lynda who have kept it going for the past years. We would also like to thank Beth Rowley, Rose Lidgley and Emily Leng who are the sole survivors of the original line up in 2005 for their loyalty to the team.

To their great credit Jim, Lynda and the 6 remaining girls are staying with the club and will continue to train together in a football based development section in order to help them take the step into open age matches if they so wish Other non footballing girls will be invited to attend as Jim is hoping to introduce various sporting skills to the club We wish Jim and his girls good luck in this new venture.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE COMMITTEE MEETING on July 24th the club was approached by Kev Ward to run another U13 team. After giving his plans for the team and after the committee looking at his qualifications he was welcomed to the club.Kev will enter his side into the Scarborough and District Minor League while Tony Kirk will enter his U13 side into the Hull Boys Sunday League. We wish Kev and his team success in their time at Cayton

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TONY LEVER'S U12s took part in two tournaments recently, firstly in the Otley tournament where they reached the quarter finals before going out on the golden goal system. Then they followed this by winning their group stage and then progressing to the final of the annual Scholes Park Gala. Unfortunately the boys couldnt quite manage to win the trophy but still had an excellent tournament that will set them up nicely for the forth coming season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOMMY SMITH'S U9s started their first season of competitive football with a tournament at Bridlington. The lads played four games winning one, drawing two and losing one. The defence only conceded one goal in all their matches. The team will be looking for further progress in the coming season after this good start.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE TWO GIRLS' TEAMS did very well at the recent CoYGFL Tournament, the U15s reached the quarter finals before going out. This was a great achievement as their regular keeper was unable to attend so some of the outfield players shared the duty. The ever improving U11s went one better and reached the semi finals only to lose to the last kick of the match. All their games were played in torrential rain, so especially well done for coping with the conditions

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CLUB WAS well represented at the Scarborough & District Minor League presentation night on 24th May 2011 at the Spa. Our U8s were awarded with medals from the league committee as no trophies are awarded at this age as all matches are classed non competative. The U9s received trophies for being runners up in both their league and cup competitions and also for their age group sportsmanship award. The U11s received their cup runners up trophies and the U16Cougars got their League Champions trophies. Finally Kev received the Minor League  secretary of the year trophy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ON SUNDAY 22nd MAY, Tony Kirks boys entered the annual tournament at Middlesbroughs Riverside Stadium. This year the team did really well to reach the final, beating last years winners en route.Unfortunately the boys went down to a penalty shoot out but came away with the best defensive and goalscoring record. To cap an outstanding performance Joel Berry was voted by other teams as the player of the tournament!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE AGM on Wednesday 11th May 2011 there were a couple of changes at committee level. Tony Kirk was voted in as the new club secretary and Kev Smith moved over to take the Chairmans role to replace Mike who stood down due to business pressures. Gill Hall will continue as treasurer and JoAnn Calvert will stay on as CWO and Volunteer Co-ordinator. Both Darren Foreman and Steve Lindley stood down as their teams have now finished their junior careers. At present we will be running 8 teams next season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SOCCABILITY BOYS finished off their season with  a win a draw and a defeat in their final group of matches in the Ability Counts fixtures. The boys have had a successful season and have taken part in some excellent matches. Next season will be a time to start rebuilding the squad as we lose 4 players to age this season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AS THE 2010/11 SEASON closes we also say farewell to Darren's Kestrels. They joined the club as U10's and in the six seasons the have represented Cayton they have never picked up a yellow card. Something that very few teams would achieve. We send our best wishes to all Darrens squad and hope maybe to see some representing the senior FC in the not too distant future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U16 COUGARS finished their time at Cayton in style. Not only did they win their league for a second successive season but they also went on to claim the Scarborough & District FA senior/minor cup by beating Duncombe Park in the final. Steve and his boys should be congratulated for their success over the seasons and we wish them well in their future football careers. They have been a credit to the club.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JOHN'S U9'S lost to league champions Scalby Juniors 2-1 in their cup final. The boys have had a super first competitive season gaining runners up in both league and cup.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U11 BOYS were beaten by Phoenix FC in their Minor League cup final but should be proud of their efforts in their first season at the club. As well as reaching a cup final they were runners up in their section of the U11 league.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OUR GIRL'S teams lost out in close matches in their League Cup semi finals. The U11s went down 2-0 to Premiership high flyers Scotton Scorchers Lions. The U15s losing 2-1 to league leaders Poppleton. The club are proud of both teams on reaching their age group semi's and now wish them luck in the forthcoming York League summer tournament.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U9s FINISHED a fantastic runners up in their league in their first season of competitive play. The boys only lost one game in the campaign and are now looking forward to a semi final in the cup.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SOCCABILITY BOYS played in their second round of group matches of the North Riding Junior Ability Counts League on Sunday 6th March at York College. The team came away from their three games with two wins and a defeat. This folows their previous group of matches in November from which they also came away with two wins and a defeat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELL DONE TO the U11s who in their first season with the club have reached their age group League Cup Final after defeating Ayton in the semi's on Sun' 6th March.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS must go to the Girls' U11s who on Sat' 5th March confirmed their runners up position in the City of York Girls League U11 Championship. The girls finished the season with a run of seven consecutive victories. This is a massive achievement for a team that finished rock bottom last season picking up just two points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U11 GIRLS raised over £300 from their sponsored "shoot out". A fantastic achievement by the team.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS to all concerned as the club won the runners up award in the Community Club category at the 2010 SDSC awards at the Spa.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CLUB are delighted to announce a new partnership with the Scarborough and Filey School Sports Partnership and the NRCFA. We will be helping with the coaching of year 4, 5, 6,and 7 girls in the newly formed SSCO Girls Football Development Centre. The centre will give the opportunity to any girls interested in football to either gain more experience or for newcomers to learn more about the game.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A BIG THANKYOU to Steve Brennan and Callum Reid from Scarborough Athletic who went down to Pindar and took a training session with our U8s. All the players had a great time and also got to meet club mascot Steven the Seagull!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE WOULD LIKE to welcome back James Brown who will be match day manager for the U11 girls. Sue will still be team coach but other commitments make it difficult for her to attend Saturday matches. James' commitment to the club has never waivered even after having to step down from managing the boys' team and he once again will be a major asset at committee level.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANOTHER AWARD, this time for the U11 Girls. I have just received notice that they have won the NRCFA Fair Play Award for 2009/10. All the girls will receive a medal for their achievement.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS to the U12s and U14s who both reached the semi final of their age groups in the Scholes Park Gala. The U12s losing in a penalty shoot out and the U14s going down 2 - 1. Well done to both squads.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE 2010 AGM two new teams were voted into the club. Tommy Smith will be taking an U8s side and Tony Lever joins the club with a new U11s.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GILL HALL has become our new treasurer, replacing Michelle who has moved onto pastures new. We wish her well and thank her for her work whilst at the club.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CLUB has just been voted Regional Winner of the FA Charter Standard Development Club Award sponsored by McDonalds. This is a prestigious award and we beat off clubs from East and West Riding FAs and Sheffield and Hallamshire FA. To get to the Regional stages we also won the County stage and now go on to the Nationals. This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication all at the club have shown over the course of the past year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELL DONE TO Hannah Mitchell who finished 2nd and Bethany Taylor who finished 4th in the Golden Boot table for the CoYGFL U14s 9-a-side league.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U11s GIRLS squad enjoyed a great day out when they went to watch the Womens FA Cup Final at Nottingham Forest's City Ground. In a thrilling game Everton beat Arsenal 3 - 2 with virtually the last kick of the match in extra time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEVE'S U15 COUGARS just failed in their attempts to do a league and cup double, going down 4 - 3 to FC Filey in the cup final. The team should be proud of their achievements this season and everybody at the club sends their congratulations!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHAMPIONS! Well done to the  Cougars U15s on winning their league. They become our first boys' team to win a league title. Congratulations to all concerned with the team.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS TO the Cougars U15s for reaching the 2010 League Cup Final after beating Scholes 2 - 0 in their semi-final replay.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE WERE unsuccessful in the two categories we were nominated in for the Scarborough & District Sprts Council Awards but did receive certificates of nomination. Well done to Sue and everyone at the club for being nominated.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELL DONE to the girls U11s who came runners up in a "design a flag" competion for the England ladies. The competition was organised by the county FA and the flags were sent out to the team in their recent Euro 09 campaign. Pictures of the flag and team can be found on the North Riding FA website.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INLINE WITH NEW Charter Standard Criteria the club have appointed a Head Coach. Due to her qualifications, FA level 1 and 2, FA Age Appropriate Introductory Level, CDF, JFO tutor, FA Female Coach Mentor and Level 7 referee, it was passed by the committee that Sue Flinton take on the role.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE ARE PLEASED to announce that the club has been twinned with McDonalds restaurant in Scarborough. This is part of an initiative by McDonalds and the FA to support grassroots clubs. We were recommended to McDonalds by our county FA. At present the restaurant is concentrating on assisting our U8s and has already handed over some training equipment and is in the process of sponsoring a playing kit for the forthcoming season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONGRATULATIONS to the U11 boys who reached the semi final of the Scholes Park tournament. Also a big well done to the team for raising around £300 on their recent sponsored walk.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUNDAY 17th MAY saw us say farewell to Macca and his Kestrels at their final presentation evening. After a days go-karting at York the players returned to collect the seasons' honours. Nathan Barnes picked up the Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Year awards and Ross Kevan won the Managers' Player of the Year trophy. Jackets were presented to Jordan Lee, Jake McAleese, Mark Davison, Ross Kevan, Joe Smith, Ethan Ingle, Nathan Barnes and Rhys Davies for their loyalty to the club. All these boys have stayed with us for over 5 years.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HERE COME THE GIRLS!, congratulations to our U13 girls on winning the League Cup. A fine victory against Hunmanby capped another very successful season for Jim's team.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IN A CLOSE match the 10s girls were beaten in the League Cup final 4 - 2 by Scarborough Ladies. Well played to both teams in a sporting encounter.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JAMES BROWN took control of his last game as manager of the Mighty U12s on Thursday 23rd April 09. He is sadly having to step down due to pressures of work. James started the team as U8's and they have gone from strength to strength under his leadership. He has also been a valuable member of the committee, organising fund raisers and social events for the club. His imput will be missed. We all wish him well and still hope to see him at the club whenever possible. Iain Pickles has stepped up from assistant to take over the team next year and we wish him well and hope all parents will give him their support.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE END OF an era occured on Tuesday 14th April 2009 when Macca's team played their final fixture for Cayton Corinthians Junior FC. This was the team that was the beginning of the club and over the years have been our most successful side. Four cup finals (two victories) and never out of the top four of their league, plus victories in the Scholes Park Tournament. Some of the players are now already setting out on the next stage of their careers by joining the Cayton senior sides or helping with the coaching of our younger teams. A massive thankyou must go to Macca who over the years has put in untold hours to make the team the success it has been.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U10s GIRLS had only their second match recently and put in a brilliant performance to over come Scarborough Ladies U10s 8 - 1 at Barrowcliff School. The team are progressing very well and are looking forward to further fixtures.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE U13s GIRLS were just unable to hang on to their league title, but still finished an excellent second. The standard of opposition was much improved on previous seasons as locally girls football continues to grow. Five of our girls also turn out for Scarborough Ladies U14s on a Saturday, so well done to them. Rose Lidgley also captained her Y7 school team to be North Yorkshire girls champions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SOCCABILITY  boys were in action again on Sunday 15th March. In a closely contested match against Copmanthorpe soccability at Cayton, the boys manged to hold on for a 3 - 2 victory. The match was played in a wonderful spirit and both sides were a credit to their clubs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WELL DONE to the newly formed Girls U10 team. A lot of last minute visits to schools and phone calls lead to the club being able to enter a team in a mini tournament run by the NRCFA. It was rushed through so late in the week that some of the girls only met 20 minutes before kick off! The girls won one, drew one and lost two of their  four games. This was a fantastic achievement as they had never trained together. Thanks must go to Sue and her daughter Megan who ran the team on the day.
